The first round of track league matches are almost complete and the headline news is that this is the best ever start to the season for Central in recent history.
Central’s team in the Lower Age Youth Development League (u13 & U15) took second place, a record equalling placing at the match in Ayr in both the new YDL and the previous Young Athletes League. The Under 17 Challenge team at this match also produced its best performance.
Central’s role in composite league teams is also paying off. Central has the largest contingents in both Team Forth Valley as part of the Upper age Youth Development League (U17&U20) and Forth Valley (U13 to seniors) in the Scottish Women’s Athletic League. Team Forth Valley travelled to Doncaster and won the first match of the YDL, the first ever league win by Team Forth Valley since this league was reconstituted. The Women’s League team had a comfortable second place at its match at Grangemouth, the best start to this league since its inception.
Central’s junior development teams in the Forth Valley League (U11 to U15) appear to have had a more mixed start with the first match in the snow of Edinburgh. With Central having two teams in the three Divisions, and these teams performing a development function with as little overlap as possible with the ‘first pick’ teams, Central youngsters are facing many smaller clubs putting in their strongest athletes. The good news is that all reports show the youngsters having a good time and learning a lot. Central’s Division 1 team is 6th out of 8, and the Div 2 team is propping up the Division. Plenty to play for and eyes on the bigger prizes of developing athletes and encouraging competition.
Sunday sees the first match of the Men’s League team (seniors only) at Grangemouth and Women’s League team faces its second match at Aberdeen.
Overall a great start to the season by athletes, team managers and coaches and not forgetting the family support teams bringing out our athletes and the essential officials who make the events work.
The Club are keen to hear from parents / supporters who may be able to share photos of the day – we look forward to hearing from you!
