Central AC Press Report
Since the inception of free to enter 5K Parkruns across the country race organisers believe there is no market for ‘pay to enter’ 5K road races. The exception to the rule must be the Silverknowes 5K in Edinburgh which doubles as the Scottish Championships. The race on the evening of Friday 6th May attracted a field of some 400 runners including 18 from Central AC. Almost ideal conditions saw a plethora of personal bests and a number of first recorded times over the distance. There were also a number of individual and team Championship medals brought home by Central runners.
In the ladies race Morag MacLarty came home in second place (16min 31secs) just ahead of bronze medallist Jennifer Wetton recording a 16.34 personal best. Natalie Milne finished in 18minutes exactly ahead of her mum Trish, 20.26 and Alison Curry, 25.12.
Cameron Milne picked up his first individual Scottish Championship medal with third in the Mens race with 14.44 and top performances from Jamie Crowe, sixth with 14.52 and Under 20 runner Aidan Thompson, eleventh (second Under 20) with 14.59 ensured Central were team gold medallists. Dale Colley and Iain Davies (fourth Under 20) both finished with 15.08 and with another Under 20, Euan Brownlie’s 16.16 the Under 20 Team silver medals also belonged to Central (same points as Edinburgh University who won on countback). Alan Hume and Neil Cameron both recorded 17.08 ahead of Robin Mussett, 18.29; Charles Graham-Marr, 18.35; Robert Hutchison, 18.41; Iain Dunsmore, 18.51 and Billy Mitchell 20.24. All in all an excellent night for Central AC.
