The Bank of Scotland Great Scottish Run Half Marathon was held in near perfect conditions on Sunday 2 October with course records in both the Mens and Womens races. Central Athletic Club’s Michael Wright was once again well to the fore finishing 13th in the elite Mens field with an emphatic personal best of 68mins 39secs. Other notable performances from Central athletes saw Scott Brember decimating his personal best recording a fine 75min 30secs performance while Fanni Gyurko finished a distinguished twelfth in the elite Womens race, recording a two minute personal best of 75min 43secs.
In the supporting 10 kilometre road race Dale Colley came home in fifth overall with yet another personal best of 31min 29secs to round off an impressive season.
The previous day had seen Glasgow lit up with the Bank of Scotland Junior Great Scottish Run over a 2.5 kilometre course . Central’s Under 17 runner Keir Howlieson was always well to the fore finishing second overall with a superb 8min 43sec clocking. In the Under 15 Girls category both Kyra Gibb (10.03) and Rosie Eckersley (10.12) caught the eye, finishing in fifth and sixth respectively in their age group. Central’s Under 13 runners finished well up the field with Cameron MacMillan clocking 10.47, Finlay Marchant 12.06 and Naomi Howlieson 12.12, while Under 11 Carys Gibb came through superbly to record 11min 32secs.
