Central AC Cross Country – Saturday 25 March 2017 – Kings Park
Some 56 youngsters competed over a one mile course in Kings Park, Stirling in the final of Central Athletic Club’s cross country series on 25 March. Andrew Butchart assisted with warm-up and stayed around to present prizes prior to flying off to Flagstaff, Arizona for another spell of altitude training. The race itself was held in bright Spring sunshine a far cry from the mud of the Winter.
Finlay Muir ran another assured race to win with a 4min 46secs performance and head the Under 13 Boys. Euan Campbell also showed good form in coming second in this age group (4.59), again closely followed by Callum Scott (5.05 and Angus Henderson (5.19). Jack Campbell (5.26) finished ahead of Ryan McGuire (5.45) and Finlay Brown (5.56). Daniel Bruce’s strength saw him head the Under 15 Boys with a 4min 53sec run ahead of improved running from Ben Hughes (5.15) and Cameron Fraser (5.25). Connor Bell continues to show great potential, again heading home the Under 11 Boys in and excellent time of 4min 54secs. Cameron Darnbrough (5.19) had another good run for second in this age group as did Joshua Kennedy (5.21) leading in Innes Brown (5.31), Aaron Middleton (5.41), Owen Eckersley (5.42), Alex Dunlop (5.45) and Benjamin Harley (5.46). Marcus Sinclair (5.47) also ran well to finish ahead of Ross McGann (5.51), Murray Henderson (6.08), Andrew Twigg (6.34), Sam Jones (6.45), Benjamin Kennedy (6.51), Angus Kennedy (7.20) and Keiran Robertson 8.22. Under 9 Boys Logan Bell (5.59), Noah Kennedy (6.24) and Cameron Pollock (6.33) never looked out of place amongst their older opposition.
It was Grace Tindall (5.18) who led home the Under 13 Girls, just ahead of Elise Graham-Marr (5.20) with Amy Faunce-Smith (5.32) and Amy Cully (5,36) in close attendance. Summer MacLean (5.44) continues to show classy form and here led in other Under 13’s Heather Riach (6.01), Anna MacKinnon and Elle Ross (both 6.03), with Finlaidh Stokoe (6.04) only a stride or two behind. Ellen Montgomery (6.09) was another to finish strongly just ahead of Megan Dunlop (6.12), Eilidh Fleming (6.17) and Heather Hale (6.29).
The Under 11 Girls were led home by Catrina Kane (5.44) as she led in Mary Keally (5.48), Leah Stenhouse (6.02), Zoe Loughrey (6.26) and Marissa Welsh (6.36). Also to the fore in this age group were Cara McLean (6.53), Issy McGuire (6.57), Sophie Appelbe (7.02) and Alice Cameron (7.32). Carla Subke (6.34) was again the sole Under 15 Girl showing her normal consistent running. There were also good and determined runs from the three Under 9 Girls with Niamh McKinlay (6.07) heading in Connie Bateman (6.56) and Ciara Middleton (7.21).
Tt was great to see a large turnout of Club volunteers and parents who helped to make this another successful event.
Series winners were Logan Bell – Under 9 Boys; Melissa Turnbull – Under 11 Girls; Connor Bell – Under 11 Boys; Summer MacLean – Under 13 Girls; Finlay Muir – Under 13 Boys; Daniel Bruce – Under 15 Boys and Carla Subke – Under 15 Girls.
