Andrew Butchart came home eighth in the Diamond League 5000 metres held at the Prefontaine Classic Meeting in Eugene. Andrew was faced by an unusually large field of some 28 rivals and the strength in depth was underlined by a world-leading 13min 00.70secs win by Mo Farah. Andrew’s 13-11.45 clocking was just shy of his 2016 Scottish Record set in Rio and saw him finish on the shoulder of Olympic silver medallist Paul Chelimo. Andrew’s performance saw him inside the qualifying time for both the 2018 Commonwealth Games and the World Championships this August in London.

In the UK, Saturday night’s British Milers Club Grand Prix Meeting in Manchester’s Sportcity saw three of Central’s men competing in top domestic competition. Dale Colley picked up the 800 metres challenge finishing in an excellent time of 1min 55.73secs, while Aidan Thompson and Michael Wright also picked up Season Best times in the 3000 metres steeplechase clocking 9-31.00 and 9-42.86 respectively.
