Central ACs Emma Mailer was on superb form for Scotland as she won the Celtic Games international in Dublin.
This was a great result for the 15 year old from Stirling as she took on and beat her rivals from Ireland and Wales in the under 18 400m Hurdles. This was a familiar venue for Emma as she was returning to Dublin 3 weeks after she made her international debut at the schools international. She earned her international selections for the schools international and Celtic games after some impressive performances earlier in the season including victory in the under 17 300m hurdles at the Scottish schools in a new club record in June.
This time she was competing in the older under 18 age group and over the longer 400m hurdles distance. She clearly learned from her experience at the schools international and at the Celtic Games looked comfortable on the international stage as she ran away from the opposition to win in an excellent 64.42 seconds, 2 seconds ahead of her nearest rival.
She almost won a second gold medal as she ran the 2nd leg in the 4x400m relay however Scotland were just pipped by Ireland at the finish. Emma has 2 more years in the under 18 age group and will look to improve in the future.
Decathlete Joel MacFarlane was also competing for Scotland in the 110m hurdles, high jump and 4x100m relay and picked up bronze medals in all 3 events.
