The Cross Country Season starts on October 14th. Are you getting yourself mud-ready? Here are some bits of info to help you get to grips with the fixture list:
For relays, athletes/parents confirm availability to team managers, direct or through coach, team manager organises teams. Multiple teams are entered, with top team based on capability.
For League matches, club members just turn up and run, collecting a number from the club tent (all Central members run in ‘18’ and each club provides the names of runners in finishing order, so it is only necessary to ‘register’ with team managers at the tent). The club pays a subscription based on numbers of runners. Age groups rise from under 11 through to Masters, in all other events the youngest age group is under 13.
For individual championships, names must be provided to team managers who enter the teams, usually at least 2 weeks before the event. Race numbers are collected at the club tent.
*The club covers the entry costs of relay events from membership subscriptions. For East District and National Championships, the club covers the individual entry costs of all young athletes and any older athletes in full time education.
The Scottish athletics website provides further details in the ‘Events’ section.
Age groups are a continuation of ‘summer’ track 2017 age groups, but for indoor track they are the start of next season’s track. So a second year under 13 stays in under 13 for cross country, but moves to U15 for indoor athletics.
Only current club members are eligible to run in club colours and to count for teams. Otherwise it is simple club policy for all athletes that want to run, can. Just let team managers know or for the League races just turn up
