Central Athletic Club athletes Andrew Butchart and Cameron Boyek have been selected to compete for the Great Britain and Northern Ireland team in the forthcoming European Cross Country Championships in Samorin in Slovakia on Sunday 10 December.

Andrew finished fifth in the trial race at Liverpool on 25 November in very muddy conditions while Cameron proved his fitness by winning the Lindsays Scottish 4 kilometre cross country title at Kirkcaldy, and followed that up with an impressive indoor 2 kilometre Scottish record run to seal his place and return to GB international duty after an absence of a couple of years.

Andrew will again test himself against Europe’s best having finished fourth in this competition in 2016 while Cameron will compete in a new event, a 4 by 1,500 metre mixed relay race, along with Melissa Courtney, Charlie Grice and Sarah McDonald.

There is also a strong turnout of Central AC athletes expected on Saturday 9 December at the East District Cross Country Championships in Livingston where the club will be defending both Men’s and Women’s senior team titles and hoping to make inroads in the various age groups.
