Central Athletic Club athletes impressed over the mud at the British Cross Challenge in Antrim on Saturday 6 January with Aidan Thompson winning the Under-23 Men’s race and Kate Gallagher taking silver in the Under-20 Women’s event. Indeed, both athletes were instrumental in Scotland winning team gold in both these categories in the Celtic Cross Country races.
Aidan’s race was part of the Senior race and, as well as being the first Under-23 home, he finished eleventh overall in a field of established international athletes, holding off Welsh Under-23 athlete James Hunt to bring home individual and team gold medals.
Kate Gallagher was competing in her first Celtic race in the Under-20 age group and was part of a Scotland 1-2-3 finish in this race, a superb start to her 2018 campaign. However, Kate didn’t take much rest as she was back performing over 3,000 metres at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow the next day reducing her personal best to 9 min 52.73 secs with another superb performance.
