There were some tasty contests at the Glasgow Athletics Association Miler Meeting in Scotstoun, Glasgow on the evening of Friday 27 July with both East District and Masters’ medals up for grabs in a series of 5,000 Metre track races. The event was punctuated by thunder and lightning storms and heavy rainfall which didn’t stop some top class performances from Central Athletic Club athletes.

While it was Scottish Cross Country Champion Kristian Jones of Dundee Hawkhill Harriers who won the East Senior Men’s race in 14min 6.38secs, he had some top class opposition as Central athletes Alastair Hay (14:12.03) and Jamie Crowe (14:13.77) picked up the Silver and Bronze medals, with Alastair improving his personal best for the distance. Telfer Gray’s first track 5,000 Metres saw him bring home a deserved Under-20 East District bronze medal with a fine 16min 57.98secs effort. In the Masters’ ranks, David Eckersley’s excellent 18min 18.33secs run saw him winning silver in the M55 Scottish Championships.

There were other top performances from Aidan Thompson 14min 36.31secs, in his track debut for the distance while Michael Wright continued his fine season with a 15:07.73 personal best. Matthew Sutherland ran his first track race of the season to record 4:15.55 for 1,500 Metres.

The opposition features teams from Wales and Ireland and there will be two Scotland teams on show, the Celtic team and a Futures team with the event giving many of the athletes their first taste of International competition and providing a great opportunity for further progress.
