Indoor League, Kelvin Hall, Glasgow 9 January 2011
There was a record turnout for Central at the belated start to the indoor league at the Kelvin Hall last Sunday with over 80 athletes turning out in Central AC colours.
The experienced under 20 womens team led the way in winning their age group. Scottish schools international Louise Anderson was well within herself in taking victory in the Long Jump in 5.01m and took runner up spots in the 60m (8.7s) and Shot (7.82m pb). Girls team Captain Chloe McGregor led by example winning the High Jump with 1.35m and took runner up in the hurdles (11.1s). Megan Jardine completed the team win with 3rd place in the 200m (30s).
Also tasting victory at the other end of the age scale were the under 11 girls with Erin Potter winning the A Standing Long Jump (1.63m) and taking 2nd in the A 600m (2:22.1). Erin Clark also scored well in the A 600m (2nd 2:20.3) 60m (4th 10.35s). Rhian Davies impressed on her Central AC debut with 5th places in the B 60m and B Standing Long Jump. Also impressing were Rena Fleming (3rd B 600m, 2:29.5) and Leah Trevis (60m, Standing Long Jump).
The under 13 boys team finished an excellent 2nd with Robert Burns winning the Shot (8.48m pb). Cameron McCorgray took 2nd in the High Jump with an excellent 1.35m, George Stanger ran well in the 800m (3rd 2:55.1), Keiran Halliday was also impressive in the 60m (3rd, 8.91s) and Liam McGregor provided good points in the 200m (31.9s). Good strength in depth was shown in this age group with Fergus Fitzpatrick in the 60m (2nd, 8.85s) and Sandro Rosta in the 200m (4th, 30.9s) sprinting well. Cameron Hawthorn impressed in the 60m hurdles (3rd, 12.09s), Jamie Price ran a strong 800m for 4th (2:56.9) closely followed by Lewis Stewart (6th, 3:02.8) and Craig Jardine showed good form in the shot (6th, 4.45m). Jack Houghton ran a personal best 60m (9.84) and John Paterson (Shot 8th, 4.35m) and Campbell McNicol (200m 8th, 32.7s) completed the line up.
The under 15 boys also placed well with 3rd place. Tom Chandler was unfazed at his first attempt at the bigger 60m hurdles in this age group winning in 10.17s and taking runner up in the 400m (63.4s). Matt Smith also took victory in the Shot (10.35m) and impressed with 3rd in the 60m (8.14s) and 4th in the 200m (27.4s). Callum Presland took 3rd in the High Jump (1.40m) and Liam Halliday was 4th in the Long Jump (4.25m). Iain Davies ran well for 5th in the 800m (2:30.9) and Euan Lambert gathered points in the 200m (6th, 28.2s) and Shot (7.16m). The teams’ strong performances were completed by Keiran Potter (Long Jump 3.83m), Gary MacFarlane (400m 78.7s), Lachlann Brown (400m, 76s), Jack Kerr (800m, 2:37.3), Neil McCallum (60m hurdles, 12.92s), Cameron Taylor (60m hurdles, 12.58s) and Kalim McDonagh (800m, 2:46.3).
Further good team places were achieved with the under 20 men, under 17 women, under 15 girls and under 11 boys all taking 4th and the under 13 girls 5th.
The under 20 men featured experienced Central athletes Kyle Henderson(High Jump, 4th 1.90m, =club record) and Sanju Siriwardena (200m 3rd, 24.7s; 400m 4th, 55.8s) joined by talented Central AC recruits Peter Muirhead (Long Jump 1st, 6.19m) and Weijen Chao (4th 60m, 7.58s; 5th Shot, 10.24m).
In the under 17 womens event Agatha William-Kelly made light work of her first competition with the senior Shot weight to win in a new club record 8.20m, Caitlin Watson scored well with 4th in the Long Jump (4.23m) and High Jump (1.40m) and also on good form was Kirsty Mitchell (60m hurdles 4th, 10.23s, 60m 6th, 8.75s) and Kirsty Forsyth (200m 30.1s, 300m 49.5s). Sprinters Ailsa Scott (60m 9.03s, 200m 31.1s) and Laura Stewart (60m 8.95s, 200m 31.3s) and 60m hurdler Christina Fairley (11.41s) also impressed.
In the under 15 girls Sarah Pearson was particularly impressive in the 60m hurdles (6th, 10.06s), 300m (3rd, 47.9s) and High Jump (5th, 1.35m pb). Emily Batchelor took 4th in the hurdles (10.64s pb) and Shot (7.12s pb). Laura Clarke also set an indoor best in the 800m to place 4th (2:40.6) and 5th in the 300m (48.3s). Lydia Simpson (60m 6th) and Emma Boyle (7th 200m, 29.9s) showed good sprint form. Roisin Bonnucchi ran well in her 800m with an indoor pb of 2:48.7. The team were well represented with Sophie Parsons (60m hurdles, 11.14s pb), Amy Gullen (200m 31s), Morven Paterson (200m, 31.9s indoor pb), Isla Burns (300m 49.4s), Shamsa Scott-Angell (800m 3:00.5), Shannon MacFarlane (800m 3:02.7), Beth Gallagher (60m hurdles 12.87s), Amy Owens (60m), Darcy Reilly (60m, 200m) and Louisa Pettigrew (800m) ensuring Central were the biggest team in the age group.
The under 11 boys team of James Thomson (60m 4th 10.28s), Ross McCorgray (60m 3rd B 10.74s), Mathew McGarva (3rd Standing Long Jump 1.47m), Matthew Chandler (4th Standing Long Jump, 1.65m) Callum Robertson (5th 600m, 2:23.5) and Sandy Holl (5th B 600m 2:26.2) showed good form.
The under 13 girls were missing some experienced athletes but performed well for 5th with Megan Ely 2nd in the 200m (31s), Evie Gallagher 4th in the 800m (2:58.6) followed by twin sister Kate (3:05.5). Jenna Innes (Shot, 60m, Long Jump), Anna Gillespie (800m, 60m), Anna McCallum (60m, Long Jump) and Lauren Harvey (60m, 200m) also took good points.
In the under 17 men Ryan Calder sprinted to indoor personal bests in the 60m (7.64m) and 200m (25.3s) and took 4th in the Long Jump (5.33m) and Hamish Innes ran 8.33s in the 60m.
