Any member wishing to compete in any of the teams should let the appropriate Team Manager know and contact him or her in advance of each meeting to confirm their willingness and availability to compete. Those athletes who already take part in the leagues but who are unlikely to be available for any particular meeting should also notify the team manager in good time so as to allow sufficient time to fill the vacant places. For more information about competing in Cross Country click here.

Summer Leagues:

The Scottish Athletics League. For senior and under 20 male athletes. Veterans (over 40s) are young enough if they are good enough. Under 17s are old enough if they are good enough, but they have to meet qualifying standards, unlike the vets. We gained promotion into Division 1 for the 2003 season and finished in a creditable 5th position in our first season in the top division. 2004 saw one of the highlights in the history of the club when our Mens team won the league for the first time ever. 2006 matches are on 30th April, 25th June, 16th July and 20th August.

Scottish Women’s Athletics League. Central AC athletes compete as part of a combined Forth Valley team, along with athletes from other clubs. The age groups are under 13, under 15, under 17 and senior, although again veterans (over 35 in the women’s case) are young enough if they are good enough. There is only one division with three matches. In July we have the Scottish Women’s Athletics Cup (there is no men’s equivalent) which sees Central  compete as a club, not as part of the Forth Valley team. Age groups as for the women’s league but only one athlete competes per club per event – most competitions allow for two.2006 dates are 30th April, 25th June, 23rd July for the Cup and 20th August. Team manager is Tony Waterhouse or 01786 824302 .                        Top

The JSB Plumbing Forth Valley League. For boys and girls under 11, under 13 and under 15. It is intended to provide opportunities for younger athletes and those who might not be picked for the SYAL team to compete, and to allow athletes to have a go at events which are not their first choice. Matches take place on Thursday nights at venues which are reasonably close to our area. 2006 matches are on 20th April, 18th May and 14th June. The Fianl is on 5th August and the President’s Select is on 2nd September.   Team Manager is Sue Mills 01259 740330                                                                                                                              Top

The Central and South of Scotland Athletics League. Like the Plumbing League, it gives athletes who might not be the club’s first or second string choices a chance to compete. It has events for all age groups from under 13 up to veteran, men and women. Unlike the men’s and the women’s leagues, veterans compete as a separate age group. Central AC competed in Division 1 for 2003, having been promoted three times in successive years. Steady performances in each of the three matches saw the club retain it’s Divison 1 status for the 2004 and 2005 seasons. However disappointment was to follow in 2005 when the club was relegated to Division 2, mainly due to shortages in the number of members available for selction. 2006 matches are on 23rd April, 4th June and 6th August. Team Managers are Females - Tony Waterhouse or 01786 824302 and Males - Frank Houston or 01786 445528 or 07854 480176  and Robert Hutchison on  01786 812058                                                                 Top

Winter leagues

The East of Scotland Cross Country League. All age groups from under 11 upwards, boys and girls, men and women. Courses vary greatly in toughness and depth of mud, with weather conditions making a big difference to proceedings. Race distances rise from about 1500 metres to about 8000 metres as you go up the age groups (championship  races, which are run later in the winter than the league meetings, are usually over longer distances). Both sexes run in the same races, although the senior women run with the under 17 men. Three meetings, traditionally on Saturdays in late October, early December and mid January. Unlike most competitions, athletes don’t have to be selected for a team; if you turn up, you’re in, and because of the scoring system big battalions count. The team mangager for Men & Boys is
David Hay - 01786 860522, for Women is Jane Waterhouse or 01786 824302   and Girls is Mandy Gillespie 01259 742175 For furher info about competing in Cross Country click here.                    Top
