Lasswade Open Cross Country. 7th November. There were some excellent performances by Central Athletes on Sunday at the Lasswade Open Cross Country event, especially as most of the participants had been dancing till midnight at the Club’s Annual Prize giving Disco the night before.
The Under 11 boys trio of Roddy Irvine (2nd), Ross Milne (4th), and Connor Kerr (20th) set the pace by taking 2nd team prize for Central. Gordon Milne, James Stevenson and Niall Cameron also competed with great determination in the Under 11 boys race. David Hutchison was the sole Under 13 boys representative and ran well to finish in 15th place.
In the Under 13 girls race, Claire Tunaley showed that Robert Russell is not the only Central athlete capable of completing a cross country event with only one shoe on. Claire lost her trainer in the mud half way round the course but, with the help of team mate Dawn Kerr, she battled on to complete the course. Lorna Cameron, meanwhile, performed with her usual determination to take 4th place followed by Becky Hay (22nd) and Kate Morris (25th). Lorna, Becky and Kate narrowly missed the 3rd team prize behind Lasswade AC.
Jennifer Emsley (4th), on her first outing for Central having switched from City of Glasgow, led the U17/20 women home to the second team prize just ahead of Fiona Thompson (5th). Rowena Bell-Scott (15th) ran well to complete the prize-winning trio.
The senior/vets men’s race showed some gutsy performances from Alex Milne (12th), Euan Bell-Scott and David Hay. Hugh Kerr, a newcomer to the event, put on a fine sprint finish only to realise he still had another 3mile lap to run. Hugh still managed to finish in a creditable position.
The last event of the day saw the senior/vet women, Ainsley Normand (7th), Jane Waterhouse (10th) and Mary Kerr (26th), battle through the mud to take the 3rd team award. Jane also won the vet o/45 prize.

Reebok London Parliament Fields Cross Country – Saturday 20 November 2004
Three of Central’s athletes competed for Scotland in the prestigious Reebok International London Cross Country on Saturday 20 November at Parliament Fields. Top performer was Robert Russell (left) who followed up his seventh place at Birmingham with a superb run over the 10,000 metre Senior Mens course. With most of Britain’s finest cross country runners on show and European Cross Country places up for grabs this was always going to be a tough challenge. Robert ran superbly for a 31.03 clocking in twelfth place, and first Scot, leaving many well recognised names in his wake.
Toni McIntosh worked well in her 5,000 metre Senior Womens race but probably found the race a bit too short as she finished 50th in a time of 18.51. Alastair Hay is another who will have better days but still competed well in the Under 20 Mens race over 6,000 metres, which he completed in 19.03.
