Athletics Report – Central AC athletes in action..
Forth Valley ladies got off to a great start to the season with a fine third place in the opening match of the Scottish Women’s Athletic League at Meadowbank Stadium in Edinburgh. Amongst local athletes taking wins on the day were Bevhan Trevis who won the under 17 discus, Rachael Methven who won under 15 shot, Catriona Laing who won the 300metres for under 17s. The under 15 girls were in dominant style with double wins of both A and B events in the 100, 200 and sprint hurdles, with a combination of the sprint relay team of Abby Davison, Emma Mailer, Katy Sharkey and Anna Cameron winning all their individual running events. The relay squad set an early season marker of 51.84s to win comfortably. Star results for the weekend came from 17 year old Sarah Pearson who won the senior 400m hurdles in a new personal best, and then pushed seasoned international Catriona Pennet all the way as she came second in the senior sprint hurdles in another major improvement in her personal best. This capped off a weekend starting off by travelling to Loughborough on Saturday where she gained a Commonwealth Youth Games qualifying time over the under 18 hurdles.
Team points were Edinburgh 537; Team West 405; Forth Valley 382.5; Aberdeen 378; Tayside 332; Pitreavie 320; Lothian 207 and VPGlasgow 171.
