Central AC Press Report Saturday 16 April 2016
Central Athletic Club’s Senior Mens Team headed to the Invitational English 12 Stage Road Relay Championships in Sutton Park, Birmingham, held on Saturday 16 April, with a team filled with a mix of youth and experience. The traditional course of alternating long and short laps was attended by the top English and Welsh Clubs and three Scottish Clubs through Central AC, Corstorphine AAC and recent Scottish Six Stage winners Ron Hill Cambuslang.
This year Central’s athletes were travelling more in hope than in expectation of a podium finish but saw the opportunity to give some Under 20 athletes experience of this unique event played out over almost four and a half hours of tough competition. With fortunes fluctuating throughout both the experienced and younger athletes acquitted themselves well to finish in tenth place overall, ahead of both of their Scottish rivals. Once again Team Manager Derek Easton, his support staff and all the athletes are due congratulations on another superb effort.
Results from the twelve legs were Alex Hendry (28min 31secs), Dale Colley (15.46), Scott Green (28.15), Lewis Millar (17.15), Cameron Milne (27.25), Iain Davies (16.20), Conan McCaughey (27.43), Euan Brownlie (17.13), Ross Houston (27.44), Aidan Thompson (16.21), Michael Wright (28.06) and Jamie Crowe (15.55) giving an overall time of 4hours 26min 34secs. With some 64 teams finishing the event it was good to see the Scottish contenders Ron Hill Cambuslang finishing in a respectable 19th place with 4-31.53 and Corstorphine’s team also doing well to finish 21st.
