Central AC Press Report

Central Athletic Club’s Alex Hendry went straight to the top of this year’s Scottish 3000metres steeplechase rankings with a 9min 21.82secs clocking at the British Milers Club Meeting in Watford at the weekend.

Elsewhere Jennifer Wetton has been adding to her reputation taking wins in the first three Polaroid 10K Road Race Series, her latest in an impressive 35mins 30secs in Dumbarton.  The series concludes on Sunday 5th June with the Vale of Leven 10K.

A number of Central Athletic Club athletes ran the Edinburgh Marathon on Sunday but results have been slow in coming through.  Highlights include Allan Gall continuing his sequence of completing every Edinburgh Marathon despite fracturing his ankle in the National Cross Country in February and consequently missing many weeks training; he finished in a very respectable 3 hours 51mins and 42 secs.  Scott Brember had an excellent run taking approximately 30 minutes off his personal best to finish third in the 40 to 45 age group in a time of 2 hours 48mins and 13seconds.  Well done to 6 of our recreational runners who train with Colin Sinclair – all completing their first marathon!

The Scottish Universities versus Irish Universities Match in Kilmarnock featured Cameron Wilson who achieved a new outdoor personal best of 12.75metres in the triple jump.  Conor McCaughey ran as a guest at the same meeting and achieved a personal best of 15min 5.93secs in winning the 5000metres.

The Club’s next venture is the Gargunnock Hill Race on Saturday 4 June as part of the Gargunnock Show.
