A sunny afternoon saw a baker’s dozen of Central’s Masters athletes in Tollcross Park in Glasgow for the Lindsays Scottish Athletics Masters Cross Country championships. Results are contested in 5 year age categories from 40 upwards with the oldest competitor in his late 80s.

The first race had 171 finishers made up of women and Over-65 men and followed 3 laps totalling 6km with 85m of climb. The club’s star performer was Charles Graham-Marr who came home as second M65 (10th overall, 25:39) to collect a silver medal. He was followed in by Claire Houston as the 13th W40 (38th overall, 27:38) and Roger Greenaway just missing an M70 medal in fourth (74th overall, 29:28).

The second race for the Men 40 to 60 categories had 216 finishers after they had navigated 4 laps totalling 8km with 110m of climb. First home for Central was Will Hensman as the 27th M40 (47th overall, 32:15), with our other M40 Gordon Appelbe finishing 47th in the category (146th overall, 37:30). The M50 category saw four Central finishers, Ewan Jack in 18th (71st overall, 33:34), Tony Disley in 29th (124th overall, 36:03), Jens Subke 33rd (138th overall, 36:54) and Donald Shaw 36th (149th overall, 37:47). Among the M55s, David Eckersley was our first home in 15th (118th overall, 35:50) followed by Danny O’Neill in 33rd (188th overall, 41:27) and Colin Sinclair in 36th (195th overall, 42:27). Our solitary M60 was Hugh Buchanan who was 22nd in the class (175th overall, 39:49).

There were also medals for composite teams, but Central’s only complete team, in M50-65, had to be content with seventh of 18 teams.
