European Champion Clubs Cup cross country – 5 February 2023 – update

Central AC represented Britain in the Senior Men’s race at the European Champion Clubs Cup cross country event on Sunday 5 February 2023 at Oropesa del Mar, about 60 miles north of Valencia in Spain.

Our strong team was Jamie Crowe, Hamish Hickey, Luca Fanottoli and Calum Phillip – Tom Graham-Marr had been selected but was prevented from travelling by illness. Coach Derek Easton was on hand to support.

The Senior Men’s course was very flat and fast along the Mediterranean sea front with some short stretches on the sand of the beach totalling 8.7km. First home of the Central team was Hamish Hickey in 29th place in 25:41, closely followed by Jamie Crowe (37th, 26:02), Luca Fanottoli (53rd, 26:41), Calum Phillip (58th 26:58) in a field of 100 runners. The team results were calculated from each club’s fastest three finishers, and the Central team had a top half finish of 12th among 26 teams, ahead of Leeds City who were the other GB representatives.
