Masters Road Relays – 25 January 2026

Jan 26, 2026

The Scottish Veterans Harriers Club (SVHC) is an unusual athletics club that organises representative Scottish Over 35 teams and Masters Championships across many athletics disciplines. Their first fixture of the calendar year is the Masters Road Relays held at Strathclyde Park with a flat, out-and-back course of 6.2km. There are three competitions: Women, contested over three legs, Over 35 Men and Over 50 Men, each contested over four legs. The conditions were chilly with a strong wind blowing in the faces of the runners over the final 2km

Central was represented by an Over 50s team, which was led-off by Jens Subke who came back in third place in 24:42 to hand over to Ewan Jack who pulled up one place with his time of 25:02. Charles Graham-Marr kept the momentum going and retained second place with 26:28 and the final leg saw Hugh Buchanan complete in third place in 30:20 having been overhauled for second place in the final few hundred metres.

Instead of metal or wooden medals, the event uses ones of folding plasticated paper called “money” – very welcome! The same quartet had achieved the same finishing position in 2025 and so seem to be defying the progress of the years.
