Vroom with a view
200 runners lined up on the grid for the Graham Clark Memorial Race on Tuesday 18 August at Knock Hill in Fife looking down over the Forth Bridges, which must be one of the best views from a motor racing circuit. Three laps of the hilly track make up the 6km race, clocking up 100m of climb along the way. Donald Shaw was our first to the chequered flag in 25:21, bouncing back from his weekend retirement at Cambus and closely pursued by the ever-improving Ally Cunningham who scored 26:26. Among our women, Rhona Scott got to shake up the magnum of champagne with her time of 34:56, narrowly pipping training companion Linda Cunningham in 35:25 and Jill Scott in 37:21. Congratulations to all! Full results at https://carnegie-harriers.co.uk/graham-clark-memorial-race-2026-provisional-results/

Antrim Coast Half Marathon and 5k
The Antrim Coast Half Marathon in Larne on Sunday 23 August is a mass participation event with 6500 runners with an international featuring some of Britain and the world’s fastest at the front end including our very own Hamish Hickey running in a Scotland vest. This year there was also an international 5k, and Grace Whelan was selected for Scotland in that shorter event.
The half marathon course starts with a loop round the town before heading north along the coast and then returning on the same road to end north of the town. Hamish had a fantastic run, finishing as leading Scot in 15th in a big personal best time of 64:05, which puts him second in the club all time lists behind Andrew Butchart. Kenya won the team race, and Scotland were pushed down into third by the Irish hosts by a narrow margin of 5 seconds across the aggregate of three runners.
In the 5k, Grace Whelan clocked a good 16:55 as ninth woman with Scotland taking the team victory over the Irish hosts. Full results at https://myrunresults.com/events/antrim_coast_half_marathon_2026/6218/results

In the half marathon Laurie Douglas was delighted to scoop the V40 women’s gold in an excellent 1:47:42. Full results expected at https://scurryevents.co.uk/results/ .
National Age Group Championships
The National Age Group Track and Field Championships took place at Grangemouth over 22 and 23 August, and the club as well represented.
DAY 1
10 am saw our first three athletes start their competition and Olivia Denholm in her first year as an U16 athlete was taking on the Long Jump. With 40 athletes entered they were split into two pools and after a no jump on her first attempt she managed 3.95m which was her best jump confirming 10th place in her pool.
Rachel Carvel and Dara Clark were competing at the same time in the U20 Women High Jump and Dara achieved a PB height of 1.58m at her second attempt which was enough for a bronze medal and Rachel cleared it at her first attempt to take the silver medal.
Tessa Gray took on the Long Jump in the second pool jumping 4.41m with her first attempt before having trouble with her run up finishing 12th overall. Sophia McMahon took on the U16 Girls 300 Metres and in the first heat ran 45.26s not far outside her PB for 16th place overall.
U20 Woman Niamh McKinlay was taking on the 800 Metres finishing second in her heat in 2:21.54 taking one of the three automatic qualifying spots for the final. She followed this up in the final with a 2:17.43 for an agonising fourth place.
Rachel Fullbrook was in the first of two heats for the U16 Girls 300m Hurdles and Olivia Denholm was running in the second. Olivia ran well and finished strong in 55.96s for fifth place in her heat and 10th overall. Rachel easily won her heat in 49.01s before following it up with a 47.80s for silver in the final.
Leo Chan took on the U16 Boys 300 Metres Hurdles which was a straight final: he finished in fourth place in 43.23s.
Dara Clark was stepping up again to U20 Women this time taking on the Long Jump – with a little problem on her run up she managed a jump of 4.92m for 11th place overall.
U20 Woman athlete Emily Sorley took on the 200 Metres – running in the first heat she qualified with 25.98s in an automatic qualifying spot before following that up with a 25.94s in the final for sixth place overall.
Sophia McMahon was taking on the U16 Girls 200 Metres race: she was in heat 5 finishing it in fifth position in 28.46s just missing out on reaching the semi-final.
Tessa Gray took on the U16 Girls 80m Hurdles - in heat one she finished in fourth place in a fantastic (wind legal) new PB of 12.86s qualifying for the final where she came seventh in 13.13s.
The final field event had two Central athletes, Emily Watkin and Hayley Abel, taking on the U16 Girls Triple Jump. Emily Watkin piled on lots of pressure by failing her first two jumps before leaping to 9.33m. Hayley with a previous PB of 7.99m was just looking to get a PB and enjoy her experience – she jumped 8.65m in her second jump which was not only a massive PB but made sure she made the final 8 in her first national competition. Emily went on to jump to 9.68m just 8cm below her PB for fourth place. Hayley went on to jump 8.83m twice for an enormous PB which was matched by the size of her smile and sixth place overall.
Well done to all the athletes for firstly testing themselves against the best athletes in Scotland (and some from England) and secondly performing so well!
DAY 2
Day 2 at the age group championships and the first Central athlete up was Noah Jackson in the U14 Boys 100m. At Noah’s first time in a championship event he ran in the first heat finishing in a new PB time of 14.23s for sixth place in his heat and 15th fastest overall.
Next up was Emily Sorley in the U20 Women 100 Metres – Emily ran in the third heat finishing third in a time of 12.78s qualifying for the final which she finished in 12.72s for sixth overall.
Sam White took on the U14 Boys 800 Metres. It was run as timed finals with Sam in the second of the three races. He ran from the front for the whole race finishing in a new PB time of 2:24.73 and eighth overall.
We had two athletes taking on the U16 Girls 1500m Steeplechase, Ella Hunter and Emily Watkin, both for the very first time! Both girls ran brilliantly with Ella finishing in 5:30.64 for 4th place and Emily finishing in 5:23.83 taking the bronze medal.
Noah Jackson was back up later taking on the U14 Boys he ran in heat three finishing fourth in a massive new PB of 29.63s and 11th place overall.
Next up was Niamh McKinlay running in the U20 Women 1500m – she ran strongly, finishing in fifth place with a massive new PB of 4:41.11.
Finally, we had Lila Robertson taking on the U14 Girls 1500m race, again in timed finals. Lila went in the first heat finishing in fifth place in her heat in 5:33.80 another massive PB of nearly 5 secs, and finishing 17th overall.
Another great set of performances and fantastic to see some of our younger athletes in Lila, Sam and Noah testing themselves against the best in Scotland.
Well done all
