British and Irish Junior Hill Running
Alex Dunlop added to his collection of Scotland vests at the British and Irish Junior Hill Running championships on the Mourne Mountains in Northern Ireland on Saturday 12 September. The competition is between teams of 16, across Under 18 and Under 20 in men and women and Alex was among the Scottish Under 20 selections to race 8.6km with 327m of climb. He finished an excellent sixth place in the race with his team mates in first, second and fourth, giving Scotland a clear win in that category. Combined with a Scottish team victory in the Under 18 Women and silvers for Under 20 Women and Under 18 Men, this result gave Scotland the overall City of Edinburgh trophy. Congratulations! Great North Run
The Great North Run half marathon is one of the classic mass participation running events in the calendar, starting in the centre of Newcastle, home of the Geordies, swooping down to the iconic Tyne Bridge before taking the long road to the coast at South Shields, home of the Sand Dancers. This year’s event was on Sunday 13 September and Central had three excellent finishes amid the 63,000 participants, all comfortably ahead of the Prime Minister. Andrew Butchart’s focus is apparently moving from track to road and he had an excellent showing in eleventh place in 62:58, a little off his very best, but still faster than anyone else in the club has run. This was Aidan Thompson’s first race over the distance and his fabulous 66:18 comfortably secures a place in the club all-time top ten. Grace Tindall, studying hard at Edinburgh University, found time to fit in another PB of 78:10 as 16th woman on what seems to be her favourite course. ARF....not a vocalisation but the "Auchterarder Running Festival".
Ewan Jack reports
With a 10K on the Saturday and a half marathon on the Sunday this local event allows some lovely routes round the quiet country roads (and a 300m stretch of XC like mud bath track) usually filled with cyclists - and the ever present David Armour with his sounds😁. Showing almost all entrants a clean pair of heels the consistency of Jenn Wetton came in 9th in the 10k (39:08) & 6th in the half (1:24:44) picking up the third placed (combined time) of all those daft enough to do both events...unsurprisingly first female in all categories 😉. Ewan Jack pulled on the yellow duster and managed to stay injury free for 20th in the 10K (42:58) and 14th in the half (1:31:06) to pick himself a wee old geezers mug 'prize'. Very lucky to have such a wee organised event on our doorstep (allegedly they had too many volunteers!) Forth Valley League Match 3
Martin McKinlay reports
Well done to the 31 junior athletes who took part in the final FVL meeting of the summer on Sunday 13 September at Grangemouth.
Lots of strong performances which saw us secure Division 1 status again for next season.
Special mention to our 4 under 12s who took on the high jump for the first time in competition. It was great to see Caelan, Harris, Niamh H and Elona all making multiple clearances - big thanks to Will Hogg for his efforts in preparing our young athletes for this.
Finally, shout out to our parent helpers and to Greg for warm-up/relay drills.

And a couple of 10ks
The club was busy near and far across the country this weekend and there are a couple more 10ks on Sunday 13 September to mention. The Cumbernauld 10k is in the north-west part of the town, starting and finishing at Broadwood football stadium. Jill Scott stepped up to clock a fine 58:47. Full results at https://results.perfecttimingscotland.co.uk/Results.aspx?CId=20065&RId=6112 . Further afield, Ally and Linda Cunningham ventured north for the inaugural John O’Groats 10k and had a lovely time on the breezy north coast with Ally scoring 45:22 and Linda 60:49.
