Amsterdam Marathon

Sunday 18 October was the date for the 2026 Amsterdam Marathon with Chris and Eve Watson making the journey to the stadium of the 1928 Olympics in the city known for its museums to Van Gogh and Rembrandt. It’s flat, it’s fast, and so are they.

They both showed they could Gogh the extra mile, painting a masterpiece on the road and each running at a very even pace with Chris setting his second personal best of the year with 2:52:37 and Eve charging through her first marathon in a splendid 3:39:50. Strathcarron 10k

The Strathcarron 10k in Denny is an annual fundraising race for the Strathcarron Hospice and it took place on Sunday 18 October this year. The course starts and finishes at Denny High School and runs an anticlockwise loop uphill round the town before dropping down to a long level straight through Bonnybridge and returning on the road by the River Carron to the finish. The nearly 400 runners were cheered on by the inimitable, irrepressible and unmissable Davie Armour and empowered by the Denny cheerleaders – Denny High apparently sparked the first Scottish Schools Cheerleading Championships.

There were some fine results for the club with Jamie Stevenson taking second place with his excellent 34:26, closely followed by Jen Wetton, the first female and eighth overall, in 38:09 and preparing to burst onto the V40 scene later this year. Neil Ferrier cornered third place in the M35 category with 41:23, Hugh Buchanan finished as second M65 in 47:39, Aidan Penn logged his first 10k time of 50:20 and Ellison Mackinnon smashed the hour barrier with 59:22.
