The annual club cross country championships took place at Queen Victoria School in Dunblane on Saturday 18 February. The weather was cold and dreich, and the underfoot conditions were wet and muddy, but the athletes’ enthusiasm was undiminished.
Congratulations to the 78 finishers in the four races. The famed stream crossings were ruled out from a combination of bank erosion and fast flowing water but once again Donald Shaw had laid a testing course with hard uphill sections and enough mud to satisfy the hardiest of competitors.
There was also a superb turnout of helpers from the aforementioned Donald Shaw to the essential teas and coffees supplied by Jane McNab; declarations from Elspeth Burton and Louise Lawrie; time and place recording by Steve Laing, Martin McKinley, Jane Dunlop and Hamish Hickey; results from Rhona Scott and friend; presentations from Club President Paul Davies adeptly assisted by Louise and Ross Lawrie; warm-up for the younger races by Derek Easton; and tail runner for these two races Beccy Osborn – many thanks to all.
Thanks to QV School for hosting us, and to all the parents and helpers who made the event happen. Congratulations to all the athletes, and in particular to the winners and medalists.
