Scottish Athletics Indoor League
Match 2 – Report
Match 2 took place on January 4th. It was the deciding match to see who would qualify for the final which takes place on February 8th. In the final the top three clubs from the afternoon league compete against the top three clubs from the morning league.
Turnout for our club was fantastic – at the end of Christmas holidays it can be very hard to find athletes available. The managers have worked very hard to create teams.
We continued our dominance of the afternoon league. The boys’ teams all came in the top three places, with the u20 men winning both matches. The girls likewise came in top positions across the board. The u20 women won both their matches. The u15 girls showed incredible depth to have our B team beat the A team into second place this time, ensuring they qualified in first equal place. The margin between our girls and the rest of the teams was huge.
One of the standout performances came from under 15, Katie Sharkey, who flew round the 300m in only 43.67 seconds. Apparently she has never run a 300m before! She came in first place – a full second ahead of the second placed runner.
Other than the u15 girls, one team has qualified from almost every age group. Selection for the finals teams will be made based on performance. Team managers will contact you directly if you have been selected to join the team.
In addition to the track and field finals, there is a huge 4 x 200m relay competition. Up to four teams can be entered for each age category. Everyone in the club who has paid their club fees and has a Scottish Athletics number is eligible – provided we have multiples of four!
If you would like to enter this competition, please email your full name date of birth and Scottish Athletics number to the indoor league co-ordinator, Elaine Walls () as soon as you can. She will pass on your details to the relevant team manager. They will organise teams shortly.
There are medals for the top three relay teams in each age category on the day, as well as medals for the top three track and field teams in the indoor league final.
Good luck to everyone!
