Central AC Press Report
Central Athletic Club’s Under 18 athletes Kathryn Gillespie and Sarah Pearson made further progress over the weekend in their quest for Commonwealth Youth Games selection. Kathryn reduced her 1500metres best to 4min 18.05secs at the British Milers Club (BMC) meeting on Saturday night in Sportscity, Manchester. Sarah also had to travel to seek quality competition and also achieved her goal as she lowered her 400metre hurdles best to 62.05secs at the Bedford International Games on Sunday.
Alex Hendry was another to shine at the BMC meeting with a fine 5000metres effort of 14min 28.56secs while Cameron Wilson triple jumped to a new personal best of 12.66metres while representing Scottish Universities and Colleges in a Match against their Irish counterparts in Belfast. Elsewhere Central’s talented youngsters finished third in the Scottish Youth Development League match at Kilmarnock and should qualify comfortably for the Scottish final. Lindsay Morrison has somewhat heightened her profile with three consecutive wins in recent weeks in the Polaroid Eyewear 10K race series Helensburgh (35min 52secs), Dumbarton (35.38) and Clydebank 10K and can now look forward to the final race, the Vale of Leven 10K on Sunday 7th June at Loch Lomond Shores.
Any budding hill runners should consider the local Gargunnock Hill Race on Saturday 6th June with entry on the day and a start time of 2.30pm. The course covers some 7.5kilometres and a climb of 300metres.
