Andrew Butchart completed his American racing stopover with yet another Scottish Indoor record, moving ahead of the legendary Ian Stewart’s best of 8min 28secs for two miles. Competing in a top quality race at the Millrose Games in New York on Saturday Andrew again proved himself world class on the indoor track, clocking a new Scottish best of 8min 12.63secs for third place. To underline the depth of quality in the race, Matt Centrowitz, the Rio gold medallist at 1500metres, finished some nine seconds behind Andrew.
En route Andrew was timed at 7.41.05 for the 3000metres, just over a second quicker than his recent new Scottish indoor record for the distance. Subject to the ratification processes for all Scottish records, Andrew should emerge from this weekend with a new Scottish indoor 3000m record and a new Scottish best performance for two-miles indoors.
