Mar 9, 2025

The final race of Central Athletic Club’s 2024-25 Cross Country Series was held on Saturday 8 March on a one and a quarter mile course devised by Derek Easton in Kings Park, Stirling. The race was held in good conditions for cross country running in contrast to some of the very challenging conditions at other venues during the series.

Competitors lined up at the start

It was Under 11 Boys Brody Scanlon and Harris Robertson who again battled it out at the head of the race with Brody (7min 38sec) prevailing, on this occasion, from Harris (7:42). Rory Beaton (8:11) stuck well to the task to finish third in this category ahead of more strong runs from Jack Morrison (8:31) and Hamish Gallagher (9:17). Brody finished first in the series with Harris in second and Rory third.

Finlay Gallagher (8:03) produced another gritty performance to head home the Under 13 Boys with Seonaidh Logan (8:06) and Hugh Thomas (8:09) in close attendance. Matthew Owen (8:20) and Rory Meyler (8:47) also produced fine runs to underline the club’s strength in this age group. Finlay lifted the Series trophy with Seonaidh in second and Hugh third.

Once again there was plenty of top class performances from the girls and here it was Under 15 Girl Emily Watkin (7:51) who continued her fine run of form to win from Nicole Taylor (8:04) with Elena Forrest (9:05) in third and also good running from Norah Thomson (9:59). Series winner was Emily Stanford with Emily Watkin in second and Elena Forrest in third with series scores going to head to head performances and Nora Thompson and Evie Low also in the picture. Lila Robertson (8:27) was the sole Under 13 Girl on the day but her time would have stood comparison with others in this age group as she also lifted the series trophy.

Of the Under 11 Girls, Ruth Thomas (9:18) finished ahead of Kate Logan (9:37) on this occasion and this was also the order in the overall series, which was also decided on head to head performances. A special mention to Under 9 Girl, Annabel Morrison (8:48) who won all five of the races in this age group to win the series trophy and suggesting she will be one to watch for the future.
