Kelpies half marathon
The Kelpies half marathon took over 900 runners from Falkirk to Fife and back on Saturday 26 September, running north to cross the Forth by the Clackmannanshire Bridge (but narrowly missing Clackmannanshire) looping back by the Kincardine Bridge and returning to the soaring statues by the mouth of the Forth and Clyde Canal. It’s a fairly flat course although running on the haughs by the river mean a wind is always likely, but there were still many Central PBs to celebrate.
Findlay Smith continued his excellent year as he came home third in a PB of 79:43. Andrew Mawer was just two places further back, scored his best time ever and scooped the top V40 slot with his 80:19 clocking. Liz Robertson set a fine example for her competitive family with her 1:44:44 finish and Louise Torr worked hard to record 1:51:24. There was a great showing from the Recreational Running Group with Sally Andrews crossing the line in 2:02:04, just outside her Alloa time earlier this year, Lesley Campbell running well for 2:09:16 and Lynn Hogg setting a big PB with her 2:14:24 finish. Linlithgow 10k
It was a 1-2-3 for Central’s men at the Talk to Thompson’s Linlithgow 10k on the afternoon of Sunday 27 September with some big names left to the minor placings amid the sellout field of 900 finishers. The undulating course goes from the High Street out on the Bo’ness road, back to Linlithgow Bridge and around the north side of Linlithgow Loch before a loop of minor roads and the return to finish on the Peel below the palace.
The three Central men at the front were Jamie Crowe who took the tape in 29:20, Hamish Hickey chasing hard for 29:47 and Alastair Marshall in 31:06 getting back towards his very best. In the women’s division the evergreen Jennifer Wetton was edged out to second female with her 38:35 showing, Under 20 Megan Macdonald set a great PB of 42:42 and Jill Scott ran comfortably within herself in 63:21.
