Senior and Under 18 Championships
The Senior and Under 18 Track and Field Championships took place in Aberdeen on 29 and 30 August – full results at https://data.opentrack.run/en-gb/x/2026/GBR/sen18/event/ - Kenny Pearson reports.
Day 1
Huge Congratulations to Sarah Pearson and Josh Scott who took gold for Central at the Scottish national championships.
Sarah Pearson has made an incredible comeback this season at the age of 28 at 400m Hurdles improving the club record she set 11 years ago with 61.42s in Belgium earlier this month. She returned to Scotland seeking the National title and herself in a close fight with Rachel Callan of Giffnock. Sarah was behind for most of the race but attacked in the home straight and took the final hurdle well to storm through for her first ever Scottish title in a new personal best and club record 61.25s.
Just 20 minutes later it was the turn of Josh Scott in the Men’s 800m final. Josh had already won the Scottish Indoor title earlier in the year but was looking to add the outdoor title. He stayed near the front of the pack throughout the race then struck for home as they entered the home straight running away from the field to take the gold in 1:54.93 minutes.
Central were well represented in the Women’s 800 Metres. Niamh MacKinlay placed 6th in 2:18.51 minutes followed by Millie O’Neil in 8th who ran 2:19.64 minutes to qualify. Leah Brown ran a pb 2:32.90 minutes in the heats.
Rachel Carvel and Dara Clark contested the Under 18 Girls High Jump where they just missed out on the medals with Rachel placing fourth with a season’s best 1.59 metres and Dara was fifth with 1.54 metres. In the Under 18 Girls Triple Jump Clara Escala and Anna Gunn both leapt to personal bests with Clara in sixth place with 10.02m and Anna eighth with 9.58m.
Day 2
Congratulations to Adam Donnachie who won 3 gold medals at the Scottish Senior championships today. Adam won the seated discus with a throw of 25.87 metres, the seated javelin in 23.18 metres and the seated shot with 9.16 metres. In the discus and shot Adam improved his own championship records.
There were further Central competitors on the track today. Josh Scott took on the 1500 Metres but was unable to add to his gold medal in the 800 Metres but finished in a respectable seventh place with 3:59.70 minutes. Also contesting the 1500 Metres was Euan Andrews who ran a new personal best 4:24.64 minutes in his heat.
Leah Brown took on the women’s 1500 Metres running a personal best 4:50.03 in the heats.
Logan Beagley was in the 5000 Metres where he placed seventh with 14:44.92 minutes.
Dara Clark was competing in the Under 18 Girls age group and placed seventh in the shot with 9.62 metres and tenth in the long jump with 4.78 metres.
Aberfoyle Trail 10k
The Aberfoyle Trail 10k on Saturday 29 August is a demanding and hilly course around the forest to the south and west of the village including the wonderfully named Lochan Spling. Neil Ferrier led our finishers in 46:08 securing his place as second senior man. Sally Gallagher was pleased with her showing as fourth V40 woman in 53:21, and Lesley Campbell from the Recreational Running group was fourth V60 woman in 66:11. Perth 10k
With our usual reporter Hugh taking a day aff (Ewan Jack reports) 😉, we can report some decent showings at an unexpectedly dry Perth 10K on the morning of Sunday 30 August. With an incredibly flat course times are often fast but the slippy grass for the last 500m can knock that on the heid. Wearing the yellow Ewan Jack came in at 42:03 very closely followed by Louise Torr in an impressive 43:45 and seventh female. The ever improving Ally Cunningham completed his fourth event in five days in 44:25 picking up a well-deserved third M60 place. Great to see a return to racing by Linda Cunningham who kept Claire Thompson company, both crossing the line separated by Inches (get it?😂) in 58:11 before the rain started to fall on the Fair City.
