Christmas handicap, 18 December

Dec 21, 2025

The 26th edition of the Central Athletic Club Christmas Handicap once again lived up to its billing as one of the winter season’s highlights. One 4km lap of the University campus with the fastest runners starting last, in a masterpiece of handicapping from maestro Derek Easton. Despite some miserable weather twenty seven runners braved the start line and once again provided an entertaining competition in which the youngsters shone brightest.

Our winner on the night was Findlay Smith who just very recently joined the club. He was followed home by two members of the intermediate endurance group who are both having an excellent winter. Second place went to Emily Watkins and third place was Ella Hunter. Jen Wetton who has competed in almost all of the previous races gave her usual outstanding performance to finish fourth.

Alastair Marshall made his trip from Linlithgow worthwhile by recording a very impressive fastest scratch time of 12 minutes and 16 seconds. Grace Whelan continued her very successful winter by recording the fastest ladies time of 14 minutes and 30 seconds.

A big thanks are due to all the volunteers who endured the weather and without whom the event could not have taken place. Full results with handicap and scratch times are in the PDF below.
