The Scottish Inter-district cross country took place at Glasgow’s Alexandra Park on Saturday 10 January. In addition to representative teams for Scotland’s three athletic districts (East, West and North) the match included open races and Scottish Students teams for the Senior Men and Senior Women.
Central had two Under-15 girls taking on the 4km course both were selected to represent the East District team for the first time. Both girls ran strong races with Ella Hunter coming home in 12th place overall in a time of 15:45 and Emily Watkin in 26th place in a time of 16:50. The East team won gold and Ella missed out on being one of the East counters by just 2 seconds – fantastic effort.
In the Senior Women, two of our Central athletes were running for the Students team with Grace Whelan leading the students home in 8th place in a time of 29:35 and Tuscany Wright the second student home in 21st place overall and a time of 30:43. This greatly assisted the Student team to pip the North District women to the third spot overall. The Senior Women’s race also saw three Central athletes competing in the East District vest and taking on the 8km course. Jen Wetton ran round in a time of 31.59 finishing in 35th place. Both Anna Hedley and Morag Millar finished in counting places for the East team, Anna in 12th place overall in 30:00 and Morag in 2nd place overall in a time of 28:21 assisting the East team to second place overall.
Two Central Athletes ran for the Senior Men’s Student team, Iain Jordan and Jonathan Marshall. Iain completed the course in 26:24 for 31st place overall and Jonathan ran 26:34 for 36th place overall. Elsewhere in the Senior Men taking on the 8km course were four athletes running in Central vests and five of our athletes running in East District vests. Those in Central vests were Andrew Irvine in 74th place in 29:21, Kaydan Day in 72nd place in 29:13, Euan Andrews in 66th place in 28:26 and Daniel Sutherland in 47th place in 27:21. Running in East District vests were Calum Philip in 23rd place in 25:57, Logan Beagley in 10th place in 25:36, Aidan Thompson in 6th place in 25:23, Hamish Hickey who took the overall silver medal in 24:43 and the overall winner Jamie Crowe in a time of 24:16. With four Central athletes in counting places for the East District they certainly did their part to ensure the East District men’s team were overall winners.
