Club cross country series 2025-26
The memories of dire winter days was somewhat forgotten with benign weather conditions in Kings Park, Stirling for the final race in the club’s 2025-26 cross country season held on Saturday 14 March.
Derek Easton, as always, ensured the young athletes were properly warmed-up for the race and everyone walked the course to familiarise themselves with the route and terrain. The race, of just over a mile, saw Under 11 Harris Robertson lead the field to the finish in a tasty 7minutes 13seconds with Under 13s Brody Scanlon (7.24), Finlay Gallagher (7.39) and Seonaidh Logan (7.54) in hot pursuit and Jack Morrison (8.24) also finishing well.
Annabel Morrison (8.12) underlined her promise as top Under 11 Girl on the day with Kate Logan (8.43) and Niamh Hastie (9.20) also showing good form. Nicole Taylor (8.24) was top Under 15 Girl with Emily Watkin, also 8.24, just a stride behind. Under 17 Norah Thompson (12.27) once again showed true grit while Alice Mitchell rounded off her race in 12.42 having overcome some mid race issues.
Medallists for the season were
- Under 9 Girls – Alice Mitchell (also the only athlete to complete all six races)
- Under 11 Girls – Annabel Morrison, Kate Logan and Niamh Hastie
- Under 13 Girls – Lila Robertson
- Under 15 Girls – Emily Watkin and Nicole Taylor
- Under 17 Woman – Norah Thompson
- Under 11 Boys – Harris Robertson
- Under 13 Boys – Brody Scanlon, Seonaidh Logan, Jack Morrison
A massive thank you to all race marshals and other helpers who have made this race and the series a success.
Road racing
The Scottish junior road races returned to Battery Park in Greenock on Sunday 15 March. There were 6 races for boys and girls at Under 13, Under 15 and Under 17. Central’s first competitor was Sam White taking on the 3km course for Under 13 Boys and he came home in a very creditable 36th in 11 minutes 42 seconds. We were strongly represented in the Under 15 Girls race over 4km where our first finisher was Ella Hunter (7th, 14:58), pursued by Emily Watkin (20th, 15:48) and Nicole Taylor (30th, 16:49). Those three finishing places gave the girls 4th place as a team, narrowly missing out on the medals. Full results are at https://data.opentrack.run/en-gb/x/2026/GBR/yarr/.
For adults wanting to race on the roads, there were a couple of options this weekend. Kevin Amos tackled the Cupar 5 mile race on Saturday to finish 33rd in a speedy 30:01 (https://www.fifeac.org/events/fife-ac-events/cupar-5/1472-cupar-5-2026.html). Closer to home, there were nearly 800 finishers at the Callander 10k on Sunday. The results don’t include club names, but club members we’ve spotted in the first 400 are: Morgan Boyd (15th, 39:31), Phil Sweeney (31st, 42:20), Ewan Jack (38th, 43:08), Gordon Appelbe (54th, 44:52), Craig Walker (46:16, 82nd), Fia Watkin (88th, 46:43), Nuala Bell (120th, 48:38), Alistair Cunningham (136th, 49:22) and Linda Cunningham (365th, 58:29). On the hills
Much further north, Max Stevens took to the hills at Inverness in the Craig Dunain hill race over 6.5km with 400m of climb and stormed home in 13th in a time of 32:03, the first finisher from a club south of the Highland Boundary Fault.
