Clackmannanshire Primary Schools Athletics

The Clackmannanshire Primary Schools Athletics competition took place on Wednesday 26 May.

Olivia Weir, representing St Mungo’s RC primary P6, claimed Gold in an outstanding 800m performance. Sitting back and letting the field of 16 battle it out she was 120m behind after the first lap. Then she moved from 4th to pick the leaders off one by one to finish with a strong 10m+ lead.

Super speedy Eilidh Evans, representing Park Primary P6, took Gold in not only her heat but the final too. She was up against some tough competition but she didn’t hold back!

This was after being a pivotal leg in her schools relay team where they won Silver.

Brilliant effort girls and we can’t wait to hear how your Stirling teammates get on next week.

Dunblane Road Race

The Dunblane Road Races took place on Sunday 31 May with a 12km course which brackets the two road routes between Andy Murray’s commemorative Olympic post box in Dunblane High Street and his Cromlix Hotel, and a 2km course within the town for Under 16s.

Almost 80 young athletes toed the line for the 2km event and Harris Robertson won the Boys Under 11 category as well as being the first club member home in fourth place in a time of 6 minutes and 26 seconds. Finlay Gallagher was only a few places further back in 6:42 as he finished second in the Under 13 Boys, with Lila Robertson fourth Under 13 Girl in a time of 7:32 and Hamish Gallagher completing the club lineup in 7:37.

An hour later attention turned to the nearly 500 runners in the 12km event, and as that race unwound it was a Central 1-2 with Cameron Milne taking the tape in 38:35 and Chris Fullerton a clear second place in 41:53. Not far behind in fifth and MV40 winner was Andrew Mawer in an excellent 43:49 followed by a stream of yellow comprising Chris Watson in 46:30, Colin McCreadie in 47:42, Aaron Middleton perhaps regretting that there weren’t any Under 20 prizes in 49:23 and Donald Shaw in 49:52. As the women’s race unfolded it was Louise Torr who finished as third female in 52:38 with Kim Milne showing an excellent post-maternity return to racing in fourth in 52:48. Laurie Douglas scooped the FV40 gold in 55:48, Eve Conroy-Watson ran well for 58:15, Liz Robertson enjoyed her children’s cheers in 58:33 while Andrew Craig should be pleased with 72:18 and Jill Scott with 75:45. Rhona Scott was in charge of the broom wagon collecting competitors whose legs had had enough.
