June has been a hectic month for junior track and field competitions culminating in Youth Development League match 3 on Sunday 21 June Grangemouth and then the SUPERteams National Final on Saturday 27 June AND National Track Relay Champs on Sunday 28 June, both at Kilmarnock.
YDL headlines
The Youth Development League (YDL) saw 20 of our junior athletes compete to try to keep off the bottom of the division 2 table - and they made it - just!!! As ever, our difficulties were more around covering available events rather than the performances of the athletes who took part - let’s have some more boys competing in FVL match 3 please!!
Highlights included a clean sweep at 300m hurdles by Rachel Fullbrook, Olivia Denholm and Leo Chan, a cracking 4x100m from our U16 girls and numerous PBs.
I’ve maybe missed a few but looks like Ollie, Christian, Sam White, Elspeth and Seonaidh all got new Long Jump PBs. While Tessa and Niamh Moran got new shot put PBs. Noa and Seonaidh also secured PBs in discus by nailing nearly all counting throws on their first time competing at this event. Niamh Moran also achieved an improved 100m PB while Sam took a massive 6 seconds from his previous 800m best.
Although our overall points tally wasn’t great, special shout to the U16 girls who were second on the day for their age group - well done! And thanks to everyone who took part and helped on the day and across the other league meetings this season.

SUPERteams headlines
Our U12s were next up trying their hand at combined events at the SUPERteams final on Saturday at a windy Kilmarnock.
Olivia, Elona, Harris and Hadley had a great time up against the best in their age group from across Scotland and finished up in 23rd place overall. Big thanks to Lynsey for TM/chaperone duties!

Relay headlines
On Sunday, Kilmarnock was once again the venue, this time for track relay championships. School holidays limited our squads for this meeting to just 2 junior teams.
Lila, Mollie, Charlotte and Niamh Moran took part in the U14 G medley race which was made up of 600m/200m/600m/200m legs. A novel format that was enjoyed as much by the athletes as the crowd! The girls had a good, clean run finishing in 15th place overall in a time of 5m 12.81.

They were followed in the afternoon by our U16 girls competing in an even more novel medley race. Elspeth (300m), Emily Watkin (800m), Hayley (200m) and Rachel Fullbrook (600m) completed their timed final in 5m39.06 seconds earning them 11th place overall.
Central also had Senior Men taking part in the 3x800m relay and they smashed it with Alastair, Daniel and Jonathan going round in 6m 09.82 seconds to take gold - well done guys!!!!

Junior competition now takes a bit of a break for summer with the final league event (FVL 3) not taking place until 13 September.
However our junior athletes may want to consider signing up for the following:
- Combined Events Champs 8/9 August
- U14/16/18 Age Group Champs 22/23 Aug
- Sen/U18 Age Group Champs 29/30 Aug
Have a good summer everyone and a final thanks to all our officials, coaches, parent helpers and dedicated taxi drivers.
