Brig Bash

From the school of alliterative athletics, Bridge of Earn was the scene of the Brig Bash 5 miler on Wednesday 1 July. The renowned race is famously flat and fast and this year’s event set a number of remarkable records. Taking the tape at the end was Jamie Crowe, flying free from the field and setting a new course record in 22:58, just outside the Scottish mark for this mileage. Junior Iain Jordan copied that class, winning the Under 20 category in a new record of 24:44 as he finished in second place overall. The club was also well represented through the field with Kevin Amos acing 29:24, Alastair Cunningham setting a remarkably rapid 34:27 to finish well up in the competitive V60 category, Rhona Scott scooting round in 45:24 and Jill Scott scoring 48:48. The event is followed by its famous premium purvey, a bumper buffet of sweet and savoury delights. Full results at https://www.perthroadrunners.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/BB26-results.pdf

Seven Hills of Edinburgh

The Seven Hills of Edinburgh race on 5 July is hard to classify: it’s part road race, part urban orienteering, part hill race over about 14 miles. It starts and finishes on Calton Hill and then wends on a choose-your-own route to the Castle Esplanade, Corstorphine, Craiglockhart, Braid and Blackford Hills and finally Arthur’s Seat before returning to Calton Hill. Allan Gall is an old hand and this year completed in a very creditable 3:09:42. Full results https://www.seven-hills.org.uk/results
